In the framework of its preventive measures against the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), Morocco’s Ministry of National education, vocational training, higher education and scientific research has decided to suspend education in Morocco in both private and public school starting from Monday 16th until a further notice.

The decision to halt public and private institution concerns all levels of education, including kindergarten, language centers and all educational institutions affiliated with the ministry.

The ministry’s communiqué explains that this is not a holiday and that “studies in physical classrooms will be replaced with online classes”.

The ministry also highlights in the communiqué released today, Friday 13th, that this preventive measure seeks to “protect students, trainees, the administrative and educational staff as well as the rest of the citizen,” especially after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the virus as a pandemic on March 11th.

The ministry also calls on the educational and administrative staff to “engage effectively and intensively in all measures that will be taken in order to ensure pedagogical continuity through all the digital, audiovisual resources required to provide distance education and training in order to enable students to continue learning.”

Finally, the communiqué highlights that the education community the students and their parents and rest of the citizens will be informed by all the updates related to this exceptional circumstance through all the available channels.
