Afro Kassita to Feature in Benguerir’s Solar Decathlon Africa

POSTES INTERNATIONALES DU MAROC

Afro Kassita to Feature in Benguerir’s Solar Decathlon Africa

Moroccan artist Youness Miloudi is set to organize an exposition, dubbed Afro Kassita, between September 13th and 27th in the green & smart building park in the city of Benguerir’s Solar Decathlon Africa. The project is in collaboration with Institute of Research in Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN).

Peculiar yet familiar would his form of artwork be described after a first glance, except that this is indeed how original art is described. Youness Miloudi’s Kassita project consists of making fascinating portraits of artists on the sides of the good old cassettes tapes. The purpose is to remind people through art of the role the cassettes played in spreading music, promoting musicians and enriching cultures back in the day, he told International Morocco in an interview.

Afro Kassita attempts to create the same effect on the scale of the African continent. The young Moroccan artist will exhibit his cassettes with portraits of African artists that sang for

their continent. In addition, he decided also to spotlight scientists for their scientific contributions that helped push human evolution forward, which fits in the theme of the Smart Village that the exhibition is part of.

Smart Village is an international contest organized under the patronage of His Majesty King Mohamed VI and consists of building a solar village that is made up of smart, sustainable homes.

Born out of a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2016 between Morocco’s Ministry of Energy, Mines and Sustainable Development, IRESEN and the US Department of Energy, the project is the largest student competition in the world and is part of an initiative dubbed Solar Decathlom Africa.

Last August 22nd, students that came from 20 countries gathered in Benguerir to begin the phase of construction and assembly of modern energy-efficient houses powered solely by solar energy.
